CHILDREN'S CAMPAIGN FUND
We liked Jenn's life experience with many of the issues that we care about. Whether it's food insecurity, foster care, early learning, or access to mental health services for kids and teens, Jenn knows people going through it or has been through it herself.
In her own words, Jenn says that she is "a working, single mother of two teenagers, one with special needs, and both of whom have needed mental health services. I know how difficult it can be to obtain quality services in a timely manner and that not getting that care has lasting impacts on kids, their families, and their communities. I am determined to do everything I can to fix the shortage of providers of mental health and developmental disability services in Eastern Washington."
When we say that it's important that a legislative body represent the community it serves, that's not just about race and gender. It's about life experiences too. It's one thing to visit a public school a couple of times a year or talk to teachers and students, it's quite another to be a public school parent. It's one thing to read stories about foster parents, it's another thing to know or be one. It's one thing to hear stories on the news about difficulty accessing mental health care, it's another to be the one on the phone trying to find help for your kid. No one person can have every life experience; that's why we need diversity in the legislature.
CCF believes that Jenn will bring her diversity of experiences to bear in a positive way for all of Washington's kids. As Jenn says, "I will advocate for your kids needs as strongly as I did for my own, because all of our children deserve to lead healthy, fulfilling lives." We look forward to working with this powerhouse.
